In 2017 the Tall Ships Race is taking place in the Baltic Sea. This renowned International Youth Event will see thousands of young people from across the globe taking part in an iconic sailing adventure. Dozens of Sail Training vessels ranging from massive 4-masted square-riggers down to 10m sloops will be taking part.

Suffolk Scouts have booked all the berths on the Adventures Offshore sail training yacht ‘Ocean Scout’ and will be taking part in the race sailing from Turku in Finland on the eastern side of the Baltic Sea to Klaipeda in Poland.  This is a great opportunity to take part in one of the world’s leading youth sailing events.

Flying out on Sat 22nd and returning Sun 30th July 2017. Cost for a berth is £350. Any Scout, Explorer, Network or Leader, male or female, can apply if they will be aged between 15 & 25 on the 23rd July 2017.

More information on the attached flyer or from Keith Trevorrow ( keith.trevorrow@btinternet.com – 07860807585 ).

We would like all Leaders who build aerial runways to come along and be reminded of all aspects of runway con- struction including safety and suitability of equipment used.

Please contact Leigh Foster to book a place.

Gone Home : Albert Newlands

I’m sorry to have to tell you that one of our older members, Albert Newland, died on Christmas Day. I have spoken to his wife Jean who understandably is very upset. Not only was Albert a member of the Scout Active Support but also had an active part with the 7th Ipswich Scout Group for many years. A true gentleman that will be sadly missed.

We now have the date and time for the funeral which is January 27th at 10.45 at the West Chapel, Cemetery Lane, Ipswich
